The movie was definitely worth a 10 year wait. I know people aren't fond of how the movie played out, but this captures a classical build up of horror and suspense that most definitely and will not be able to top. We fans have gotten what we waited for- a movie that captures a good sense of what the game was like so many years ago. Obviously it's not going to mirror the games directly, as the directors worked hard to maintain a consistent level of quality throughout to make the movie watchable for younger fans as well. And we all know the lore, it goes so much deeper and darker, and I think that's why Scott decided to rewrite it so many times. If it had kept the aura of what the first game was like, it'd probably be a rated R movie due to the sheer gruesomeness of it. But again, Scott wanted all of us to enjoy it.
We got the crying children, we got the death of William, and we got easter eggs that if you look hard enough (some more obvious than others), are there. The end credits for example- sitting in that theater and hearing what could be a calling for the next movie genuinely sent shivers down my spine.
I am almost 18 years old, and got what 8 year old me asked for. I'm happy that Scott decided to go through with this, as it brings a beginning of the last chapter of my childhood. I have literally grown up with the games, the talks of lore, picking and peeling at whatever we could find to make sense of the series, the insane amount of Game Theory videos I've gone through watching- have all lead up to now, 10 years later.
I seriously am excited to see the next movie. It's genuinely Scott's last project, and I cannot wait to see what happens. He's been with us through thick and thin since childhood, and he's always made the choices that he hopes fans will enjoy worldwide. Every detail and moment were perfect, down to even the curtains on Pirate's Cove. There's even book references.
But again- it easily was worth waiting 10 years for. I grew up with this, and I'll be closing the chapter of my childhood with it. The Living Tombstone song was the perfect addition to the credits as well. Can't believe that's 10 years old, too. Still a banger to this day.
Thank you for everything, Scott. This was amazing.
