ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK! Ziyad captures what few authors do: the conflict between internal and external oppression. Yes, marginalized people are harmed by systems of oppression but how do we turn that oppression on ourselves and others. Ziyad's memoir is a candid account of this dynamic while also being an intimate letter to his younger self. The self he seems to feel responsible for killing to the conforming he must do to a system that hates black children. UGH, JUST READ IT!! You'll be glad you did!
