Honestly, if I really want to rate this movie in the negatives but one reason why I'll give it a star is that the idea of the movie was good. The story line had SO SO SO much potential that could have been executed in the first part itself. Personally, i feel the whole 'Brahmastra' storyline would have faired so much better, had it been an ANIMATED SERIES. Series, because the movie seemed to ignore the secondary and tertiary characters almost completely. Some knowledge of the other characters' past would have made the story more whole. Animated, because as a person who has seen movies with WAY better CGI, the special effects would have seemed less out of place in an animation.
After watching Gangubai, I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for Alia Bhatt but Brahmastra really belittled her acting potential by portraying her as some insouciant Juliet.
There were some scenes that simply lacked common sense and some dialogues really made me cringe. So many holes in the plot.

While I don't want to cancel Bollywood, i just want to say that this shouldn't be the standard for movies, they simply don't have any cinematic value. Bollywood has now become a monopoly for the old successful actors and their kids. I think it's incredibly unfair that the kids of such actors have a guaranteed spot in this industry without having to put in an ounce of effort. And to be frank, they don't even act satisfactorily and further diminish the image of Bollywood. There are some incredible actors that pop up like Haley's Comet (like SSR) but get swept away because no one in cinema industry wants to be dethroned from their high and mighty seat. That being said, if there is someone who has the power to really impact people with their words and actions, please please change Bollywood for the better, be our Haley's Comet. If not, then directors, please take us back to the good old days of Bollywood.
