The film was interesting but left far too many questions, loose ends and tried to presumably take too many shots at our dependency on technology.
The initial concept of a widespread power outage, perhaps tied to a cyber-attack, was interesting. The intrigue carried on when GH and his daughter unexpectedly returned to the home they rented out asking to stay the night. They seem to have insight into what is going on but are cautious of sharing too much.
That’s where things start to fall apart… While whatever is going on in the world is occurring, it apparently makes everyone disappear, eliminated the US military, forced animal migrations, crippled any type of device that uses technology causing ships to run ashore, Tesla’s to auto-pilot themselves into high speed crashes and planes to fall from the sky. All the while no one can get any information on what is occurring since they don’t seem to know how to do anything other than check their cellphones, which no longer have service. Mix in subtle racial undertones, absent minded parenting, and a lack of common sense.
Still trying to figure out the large herds of deer stopping to stare at them…
