In these days of movies depicting horrific acts of violence disguised as “entertainment” comes this wonderful motion picture. Tom Hanks engages us to love a misunderstood, largely unlovable elderly man as only the talented Mr. Hanks can. I highly recommend this film for those who are weary of superficial plot lines and soulless superheroes. You will enjoy this story, I promise you.

I was eager to see this film. I enjoy Ridley Scott’s work and Joaquin Phoenix is an accomplished actor. However, upon viewing, I found the movie tedious, choppy and rife with uninspired dialog. It tried to explore Napoleon’s relationship with Josephine while including the protagonist’s military exploits. Sadly, both aspects fell short of their desired goals. I concluded my viewing disappointed with the endeavor.
