Finally got around to watching it. Can officially say this movie came the closest to getting me to humor this religion than any one person, family or otherwise, got to convincing me of this religion. Despite the fiction, the messages are all there. even still, seeing all of the 1-stars further convinces me that we live in a story of our own. A story that involves 1-star belief-fakers, a true message that champions the suffering of ALL man, and those that can be swayed.
Slight Spoilers, but honestly its an old story retold so not totally a deal breaker unless you yourself are going to watch ||||||
you see, the 1-star reviewers represent the apostles. He who could not understand their fellow man cannot preach to them what the word is because he cannot relate to them his belief. If you cannot stomach a fictional re-telling of a fable about your religion because it does not match your outdated idea of that fairytale, then you cannot be mad at those that tell it. why? because
Make the damn movie yourself and see if you do not get any eyes on it but your own "flock." Yet you hope to "recruit" for your lord.
The real jesus in this depiction is a man of that land that performs the miracles, saves people on screen outright, gives selflessly, and inspires people to the word that is his lord.
The ficitional portayal of Jesus is explained to have been based off of a man who begged, got cleaned, and falsely crucified. In his predicament he reveals that he wishes for all in attendance (bystanders included) to be slain. This is not the words of a benevolent lord. But still do the black and enamoured faces enshrine his visage.
Clarence represents those like me. A man without a religious denomination that only believes based off of whats provided (honestly, a small ask.) The ending ties loose ends by making it so that Clarence is given that chance in the ultimate form of proof provided. The Messiah he pretended to be bringing him back from his death. the story also nicely gives us the last message, that Jesus is in the world. That Jesus is here (at least then) and not gone from us. That despite "weak men" trying to oppress a whole people, he still won and is still going to do his thing.
Mind you, the word blasphemy literally only means to say things that insult a religion or disrespects it. These people only dislike it because it isnt THEIR version of what they want to believe, and so that is disrespect to them.
so if a man like me only believes in knowledge, how are you supposed to convince me that your story is real if you can't even respect another believer's version of it. I'll not cast my stone in with these fine folk, you can have your "belief"
tl:dr honestly the easiest way to consume the story of Jesus' crucifixion that's not only serious, but comedic and heart wrenching in nature. contains in small doses light hearted romance, action, comedy, reverential religion, miracles, and loyalty. if you believe for self serving purposes, you are going to give it a 1-star on Google
