One of the worst films I've seen, but simultaneously, it's one of those 'It's so bad, it's good' kind of films; it's unintentionally hilarious at times it's trying to be serious, and when it does try to pull a joke, it was practically cringe. The humour is meant to be dry, yes, but dry humour isn't great like, 99% of the time. I cannot believe I have to study and pretend to praise this film in my HSC, because the majority is really terrible, from the acting to the clunky dialogue and extremely inhuman - almost alien, if you will - personalities of all the characters. Darryl is annoying and doesn't seem to know anything at all, his wife is delusional and is the equivalent of a traumatised Marge Simpson, Dale is practically unimportant to the story and STILL manages to be an annoying contribution to the story; I could go on about all of them, actually. The one Kerrigan in prison is the least alien and annoying, and that's because he's BARELY in the film. The story itself is acceptable, but the execution of literally everything else was unbelievable garbage. I'm giving this two stars only because it happens to be 'so bad it's good' to me. How is this an Australian classic? And WHY can't I criticise the daylights out of it in my HSC essays? I'm genuinely shocked at how tasteless we are, lol.
