I've enjoyed good movies in the theater. This was not one of them. Too much screaming and bickering amongst Thelma's family. What did the dysfunctional personality of Thelma's grandson have to do with the film? Background music too intense and WAY too loud Hollywood made Thelma larger than life in recouping her money. Entertaining at best but it would have been better if I had a mute button for the background caccaphony and a fast forward for the family squabbles.

Faulkner wrote about the despair of the unfortunate underdogs of humanity. In the film As I Lay Dying, the problems of this unfortunate family come to a head and then are resolved. There was one little surprise at the end. I thought the director did a good job of showing the pathos of this poor family. It was worth watching.
