I went because of the terrible reviews and found, as expected, the total opposite. Incredible cinematic artistry, masterful directing, superb dancing, sets and mind blowing choreography. For me the CGI is used perfectly to add fantastical elements but not overdone at all. I've never seen the stage show to compare but I knew all the songs and rate this film as a standalone masterpiece of creativity. I cannot understand the negative reviews, probably too slow, subtle and gentle for modern audiences and jaded critics used to a barrage of action and ear piercing sound. The auditorium was annoyingly full which i was not expecting!!
