This movie had so much potential but I feel that they fell short. I’m all for women empowerment but not at the expense of men. Barbie treating Ken like straight trash and it was just supposed to be okay. The end of the movie took a weird turn for me. I feel like they should have gone in the direction of true equality where men and women are treated the same and both respected. It felt like a movie where since women were looked down on men for so long that they wanted to do the same to them. Don’t get me wrong a lot of the scenes were funny but there were a lot of times where I thought it was very mean and uncalled for. Also I had a problem with the body image scenes. Like the whole reason why Barbie wanted to fix things was so she didn’t get cellulite. Is that really the kind of message we want our daughters to have. There were good messages in the movie but there were also bad ones. Overall I’m not impressed with this movie. I’m very disappointed with the outcome. I have both daughters and a son and I want none of them to feel like they are less than the opposite sex and this movie tears men down to uplift women and that is not the world I want my son growing up in.
