Yep, you're reading right!. This is one out of the 3-5 best War films ever made.
The 1930 version already got the American Academy Award as the Best Picture of that year. This Netflix's 2022 version -92 years after- is even better. There are just a very few movies showing the stark futility of war like this one masterfully does.
The sequence recorded at around 1 hour 30 minutes of film, related to an Allied Tanks attack over the German flank, it is unparalleled by any other filmed war sequence, with the remarkable sole exception of the opening Normandy's Landing on Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan.
Also, the film is a German-American production, rightly spoken in German language and unlikely most other war films, reviewed from the German perspective and specially from the soldier's humble point of view.
A huge piece of Anti-war Art, this film is just matched in technical proficiency and storytelling by the likes of Coppola's Apocalypse Now, Gibson's We Were Soldiers and the early mentioned Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan.
2022's All Quiet on the Western Front is a "must be" Best Picture Academy Award, if the Academy's desire it is to redeem themselves from the flaws committed along the years with several war films. 9.5 to 10 out of 10 points. Exceptional.
