It is based on the book only in that it keeps the names of the main characters and the theme of the big events. The details…the big details are much different. The characters aren’t as described in the book. There are new characters. There are characters from the book, pretty important ones, who are omitted or who aren’t able to fulfill the roles provided in the book.
Don’t approach the show thinking it will be like the book.
