Lots of manufactured “drama” added that wasn’t in the book. Like the main character Paul being given the uniform of a soldier who died earlier in the war. And Paul remorselessly killing numerous French soldiers, then inexplicably falling apart when it takes one of them several minutes to die. And the German general living like an aristocrat while he orders his troops into one last battle after learning the armistice has been signed. And Paul being killed literally 30 seconds before the war ended. And the teenage recruits being giddy with excitement about going to the front, like they had no idea anyone might try to kill them.
