I watched with no expectations. During the first 10 minutes, I thought, man, is the next 2 hours going to be like this? But then, frame by frame, the intrigue of what I was watching grew, and each scene became something precious or something to ponder. I loved it. Every spot, every location, and every person has a story…and true, life goes on, and people come and go, but what a tapestry it all creates.

I read this book to my son, a special needs 23-year-old. He remained attentive because the tale was so gripping. I’d pause now and then because he’d ask me the meaning of a word, and I’d often also stop to explain the circumstances or to recap what we’d just read the night before. But mostly, my pauses were to just experience this story and to process the emotions I felt; I was so deeply touched by Pax and Peter and Vola amongst indiscriminate backdrop of war. How did you do it, Sarah? I hung on your every word, your every description. You’ve written a beautiful and necessary story.
