“I Hope This Doesn’t Find You” started off a bit cliché but as I kept reading, I became more invested. The writing is eloquent and witty with descriptions that really draw you in. I connected strongly with Sadie’s character, her drive to be the perfect student and tendency to people-please felt authentic. Seeing her story from an outward perspective highlighted the cycle of struggling to set boundaries and the resulting resentment. It reminded me that we partly shape how others treat us. I also really resonated with her desire to support her family, doing your best feels easier when it’s for those you love.
Julius initially felt dramatic with an overbearing arrogance and smug attitude, but his character became more layered as the story progressed. Learning about his overachieving brother revealed the pressure he lived under and helped explain his overcompetitiveness. Beyond this, his quiet consideration for Sadie shown through small gestures is enough to make you swoon.
The chemistry between Sadie and Julius had me grinning from ear to ear. Their academic rivalry and subtle affection were charming and perfectly executed. I read each chapter with tension and excitement.
