If you are expecting Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen fighting style, then this movie will not suit your taste.
It is not easy to understand this movie.
The director is trying to present in different angle, his point of view, on how a fight between martial artists would actually look like, and at the same time explore the mindset / mentality of the martial artists and why they behave and react in such a way.
Real Chinese martial arts techniques or Kung Fu could be quite awkward looking and thus perceived to be even comical to some audience
Higher skilled masters may be capable of killing their opponents but usually practise self-restraint due to a unwritten martial code of honour
They would attempt to disable, intimidate or suppress opponents to concede defeat or submission while avoiding causing serious harm or evening maiming / killing their opponent
Have another look at the movie with a open mindset, i would believe you appreciate it more.
