I am a big Indy fan and I loved this movie! I have the 4 others memorized and this will be another I will buy and watch repeatedly. I don't understand all of the trash talk! I went in apprehensive that it was going to fall short, but it didn't! Maybe others went in with the opposite mindset and that is why they were disappointed. I loved the plot and thought it was very appropriate! If you know how much Marion loved Mutt, and how bad Indy and she are at expressing their feelings, the idea of his death tearing them apart makes perfect sense! It would have been nice to have Sallah in the movie more, along for the adventure, but the fact that he was not up for it because of age felt real to life! I know lots of people had a problem with the lead actress' character being obnoxious and money focused, but, as Indy pointed out, "no one memorizes their dead father's notebooks for money." She was a very traumatized child that grew up unavoidably tied to the item that drove her beloved dad mad! She had internal conflict towards the item! Part of her wanted to take mastery over it by getting it and then selling it to prove that it had no power over her. Another part if her wanted to find the whole thing to justify her dad's obsession with it! She tried to justify her selling the item by convincing herself that all that mattered was money, but that was a psychological salve she put on her wounds to sooth her trauma! The events of the adventure, and the relationships she grew in life and death struggles helped her to deal with her demons, realign her priorities, and let herself care for others and acknowledge that she cared! Those who just saw the brash, obnoxious narcissist did not dig deep enough! I got the "feels" of the old movies, and I felt this was a movie worthy of the franchise! There was adventure, humor, and deep, real characters. I would recommend!!!
