SPOILERS ALERT - RARKPK is an enjoyable flick and comeback movie from Karan Johar with lots of Bollywood masala as expected. Classic Themes of family values, romance, class and culture wars, misogyny and patriarchy, are adeptly explored. Ranveer and Aliya were perfectly cast and acted very well with Ranveer providing comic relief as an over the top flamboyant Punjabi and Aliya as the Intellectual progressive Bengali. Jaya Bachan is surprisingly good as the icy mother in law. There were a lot of nostalgic old Hindi songs especially in the first half of the movie which gave it a surreal vibe, similar to Parineeta. Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi were also well cast in their roles. Watch out for the Durga scene and the Laddoo making scene. The film is perhaps a bit longer than it needed to be but the locations and sets are grand, the costumes and colours dazzling, the characters and dialogue memorable and of course it has the essential ingredient for ultimate escapism -Bollywood masala!
