NO 1. don't look at the hate reviews. There are people that either couldn't understand the game or simply cant play it. "from what I have read" I played 2007-2014. I am a carebear and proud of it. I lived in high sec "safespace". and I am now back at it. This game is worth playing. Yes it can be addictive. Yes to play it to it's fullest it will cost money. Yes you can play this game solo. I mine, make and sell stuff. I run some npc missions and other stuff to pass time, I am not in some 100+ group. I run solo and a solos life it is for me.
