Devestating. Overwhelming in its understatement. The banality of life and disaffection of the Commandant and family living in comfort is juxtaposed with the visuals of the smoke stack and the audio of screams and gun shots over the wall.
Some scenes left me heartbroken - the ‘realization’ about the success of the beautiful flower and veggie gardens, the prosaic discussion of the working efficacy of the ‘ovens’, the fur coat incident, the sizing up of the beautiful ballroom compared to a gas chamber.
Unspeakable. I am bereft.
