I find this show fascinating. It depicts how people are not entirely good or bad, no matter how we judge them. My interpretation of the ending is that Devon loves her dad and is willing to take care of him because of his illness. She knows he is a man who caused pain, especially after her mother died, but she also understands his suffering—and that not everyone can be perfect. From all the stories I’ve read, men or fathers often don’t show emotions well, and they struggle to handle them. This doesn’t give them the right to hurt others, but it highlights the importance of encouraging people, including men, to talk about their feelings.
I see Simmone as a pitiful girl who lacks the ability and courage to face her own pain. She’s still drowning in her nightmares, and I just want to hug her and offer her comfort. Basically, Simmone is stepping onto the same path Michaela is heading down—and I like the irony in that. I can see how women keep fighting for a “better” life, while the man who should be providing support just stands there and does nothing. He takes no responsibility for his own life—allowing Michaela to be hated by his ex-wife’s children, letting rumors spread, protecting no one, and truly caring for no one but himself. What a selfish man.
I really enjoyed this show and liked how it ended.
