GANG BEASTS IS THE BEST..........

A must watch if you love Alien/Aliens like I do. Even though it doesnt quite square up to those masterpieces it comes in a solid 3rd in my opinion. A nice grim dark setting of mankind where everyday people were under the foot of the corrupt Weyland empire eeking out pretty poor lives. I liked this glimpse into the universe that other films hadnt caprured so well. It setup the film nicely with a slow burn that delved more into horror before giving way to more action and thrills. Yes, some bits didnt gel quite right and there was a bit too much cramming of nostalga from previous films (even for my liking), but i forgave those bits because it was great to see a decent entry into the franchise to make a change. Cliche to say, but i wasnt keen on the end challenge for our hero, but it was ok and tbf hard to come up with new ideas for shock value when dealing with such a well known concept redone multiple times.

Its hard to top the original cult classic from the 90s that sent shivers down my teenage spine at the time. That film still gets me, so i might be being a tad unfair here; It didnt grab me like i thought it should have... like it was just missing something that could have made it great. The story is ok, the acting and gore is all very good. Theres some good scares in there too and it links to the original well. But it needed a lot more creepiness in my humblest opinion and to have had a more imaginative conclusion. Dont get me wrong, its worth a watch if you are a fan of the other films, but not one that stands out for me or likely to watch again.
