The movie makes absolutely no sense. The character receives a gift from an unknown woman, which she initially refused. The box forces her to put things she thinks she loves, hates, or needs, but since “there is not enough truth,” the box rejects them. Even when she follows exactly what the box wants, she still keeps getting screwed (????).
In the end, she starts throwing a bunch of junk into the box, which finally starts accepting and consuming everything (what a funny entity?). You can see that the movie even tries to deliver a moral lesson about how we torment ourselves, suffer from anxiety, and leave behind what really matters, our faith, our feelings, the people and things we love. It suggests that, due to anxiety or lack of self-confidence, we end up harming ourselves, and that we should value ourselves more and act thinking about our own good.
But then… none of that materializes. In the end, she remains anxious, a smoker, her sister continues to hate her, she still feels like crap, is all alone, and the technological stalking continues. Literally a disappointment. A waste of Dakota in the movie.
