An amazing folkloric musical horror film!
Showcasing a glimpse of the “Blackbird Cafe” store, within the movie, was one of my favorite gems.
We are all aware of the “Bluebird Cafe” located in Nashville, a place historically popular and known for discovering new Country artists’ — even currently today. It’s A VERY EXCLUSIVE and difficult place to get into that offers aspiring indie folk/ country singers the opportunity to sing live and receive grand acceptance within the country music scene as well as a step towards becoming a famous country singer due to being able to perform in front of powerful individuals within the country industry.
While it has housed so many greats, it is just another form of symbolism provided in the movie showcasing the art of music being taken from its originators, copied, and converted.
It’s also a great reminder of the symbolism of blackbirds and what is synonymous to it.
Also, Just to think, a beyond popular English band profited from singing the blues of a black woman in the civil rights era, in their hit song Blackbird, (it’s like the head vampire begged to Sammie, “let me use your blues”)
