The Darkest Minds is one of my favorite books. It was the only book I read fully in my entire life (yes I would skim read assigned books in English Class). I had the first two books in my hand since 2013, and never imagined this turning into a movie for how long they were out, and I could of believed not one other person I would talk about this book with, would know what it is.
When I heard the movie was coming out, I was totally shocked. Recently I realized that since 2013 was so long ago, I couldnt remember diddly squat about what it was about, so I decided to reread some of it. I anticipated the movie so much, that I decided to let the movie do the talking for me, and now I just have to reread the original book anyways, for how obscure the movie was so I can read Never Fade without feeling like theres so many missing parts.
The movie itself wasnt the greatest. The scenes were so short they were blips throughout. You couldnt get nostalgic out of anywhere because it felt like they took a knife and said "alright shorten all scenes to the point they practically skip."
For the small details, I was thinking "Are you serious?! They couldnt add that one small detail?" Not giving everything away, but for example, they called "Yellows," from the book, "Golds." And on the departure from the bus in the beginning, the book said the boy later labeled orange, made a woman shoot herself immediately upon off boarding, and almost every kid but Ruby made a run for it and got shot on spot. Just watch the movie and you will see what they ended up doing.
Other details didnt bother me THAT much, like the part they wear all colored jump suits instead of the colored X's on their backs.
