A mesmerizing and extremely believable story...translated into a wonderful novel that reads like the "cautionary storytelling tales of my tribal ancestors!" While it's been many years since I read it, every catastrophic event over the last 8-9 yrs, has brought it back to the forefront of my aging memory (I am now 71yo). Somehow, I ended up with two copies, as I kept loaning it to friends, and recommending it as an excellent read. It really captures our "clueless behavior," as human beings, and our inability to grasp that all our human interactions with other life forms might one day come back and bite us in unexpected ways. I imagine all life and energy has been trying to "communicate " this very important message to us, yet we are slow to learn. We are not the "superior intelligence," we like to think we are. I suppose it's a long book, but I personally like that...I wish more ppl would've read it and taken it to heart!!! We face so many ecological challenges and still are slow to act accordingly. Perhaps we don't deserve the gifts this planet has provided. As a Native American I've always felt I am an alien here...it seemed I was as a "fish out of water," when trying to connect with human beings I've met. Only a very few seemed to understand where I was coming from, and mostly relatives, children and animals made the best, most loyal companions!
