As a fan of Shakespeare, I can’t help but be drawn to this film. So too, I am impressed by Robert Eggers who is an artist very deliberate in his presentation. While the movie has been criticized for overt gore and bloodshed, and stuns with the supernatural, it is all in an effort to bring us closer to the language, customs, perceptions and traditions of the time it depicts. The 2nd act was a bit slow-moving, but the film otherwise delivered and engaged. The twists were also unexpected, and I’m grateful that this did not follow the familiar “action” film track. Enjoy!
