A really excellent show. It has sophsticated plot lines which really capture the essence of a complicated and tumultuous period in medieval history. Performances are generally masterful. It works I think because the cast is a mixture of English, German, Austrian and Scandinavian actors, so the cultural nuances brought to each performance seem like an authentic reflection of the period (whether it is, who knows, but it works for me). If Vikings is high school history, The last Kingdom is masters level.
