Visually, it's absolutely stunning. The game mechanics are solid, and I like the overall theme and direction of the game. I have to say, though, the dialogue is pretty cringe. The whole game has a somber, melancholy realism to it. It's moody and bleak and I like that. The NPCs never smile, the interiors are sparse, and there is obvious attention to detail in regards to the primitive technology and architecture of the time. I particularly enjoy seeing all the interesting Scandavian names of my villiagers. But the deliciously moody spell the game casts is completely shattered by the weak and uninspired dialogue. I've resorted to quickly clicking through it as quickly as possible without even reading it because it sours the experience so much. Surely a team capable of creating a game with such breathtaking graphics and attention to detail can come up with dialogue that is more thoughtful and period appropriate. Throwing a M'lady in front of every other sentence doesn't make me think 10th century rural Scandanavia. It just makes me think the dude that wrote this dialogue has a goatee and tips his fedora at every unsuspecting woman of childbearing aget he sees.
