I give this movie a “thumbs up” because it was captivating and I could have watched more. Having said that I did have moments of disappointment. The movie seems to have been made with Broadway in mind. It will be an excellent theatre production. I unfortunately prefer more story, and a bit less time spent in ridiculous dance and song numbers in a movie biopic. Rocketman attempts to achieve both biopic and musical and succeeds more on the second than the first. I grew up with Elton and just saw his concert in February. I missed reliving the timeline of events as they actually occurred. The songs were not in order at all. I deeply missed the song “Someone Saved My Life Tonight”, as it has always seemed a piece of Elton’s soul. I honestly felt the best acting came from the supporting cast particularly Bryce Dallas Howard, and adorable Jamie Bell. Tagen Egerton (sp?) did a good job, though never fully had me. It was nice that he did his own singing though I missed the voice and sound of the authentic. I would still give this movie 3.5/5 stars. It was a bold undertaking with decent results.
