This movie is a continuation of the first fantastic beasts, which means required pre-watching, so that helps if you are watching with people who haven't seen the first one.
This film does have some canonical errors (See other reviews), but it has many great things about it. The cinematography is on point, with great contrast between light and dark, and the characters. Newt and Jacob haven't changed much since the first film, but the Goldestien's have, and this wasn't really explored, with Tina ignoring Newt for most of the movie for some reason, and Queenie changing sides because she couldn't find Jacob in Paris. Dumbledore is on point, even without the long beard you can still feel like its Dumbledore. Leta's death makes no sense (Lestrange family tree.), and the inclusion of Nagini didn't add much to the plot aside from a friend of Creedence. Grindalwald himself is perfectly executed, with Johnny Depp performing brilliantly to create a villain that actually feels evil. The plot sometimes got convoluted, and hard to follow, meaning that you have to pay close attention throughout the movie.
Overall, the film had some errors in character development and Canon previously established as well as the plot being hard to follow, but it still was a worthy successor to the first film, and actually felt like a continuation of the franchise.
Hope this helps!
