Perhaps my all time fave sci-FI series ever…humans as a future species reaping all of its eons of societal foibles and the dark consequences of its best and worst intentions. The acting is spectacular, as each of the main characters must evolve in a ever-expanding universe whose laws begin to defy physics and threaten them as individuals, as a family, as a race of squabbling haves, and have nots. The arcs of personal character development is so well done as the series progresses from one mysterious event that propels the storyline forward, but is never completely resolved…Thomas Jane as the jaded detective is my favorite character, but each actor’s true nature coalesces into archetypal personas, while remaining very human at their cores. One can only hope that Amazon Prime will renew this show, because we fans are not ready to disembark the Rocinante! Producers, Fed Ex the show to Jeff Bezos, pronto!

A dark and moving saga of a peasant family’s life before the Iron Curtain came crashing down in the aftermath of WWII; the pre-and post war culture in Russia with amazing performances by all of actors—so well cast. A long look at the barbarity of the Gestapo, the war, the gulag system and it’s effect on the family members from a cogent perspective. The redemptive powers of familial love.
