I’ve always liked JLo… I was excited for this when I saw the trailer & love a concept album! I loved the visuals, I love her telling her story and sharing her personal growth through her lyrics and her music and the extension of that expression through movement (I love me some JLO Choreo!!!)… I think the songs just aren’t strong enough to carry the epic fantasy, beautiful performances, or make us feel what was intended. The majority of the songs while very listenable are not standouts and feel like filler tracks, verrry verrry safe and nothing really pushing her sound anywhere more than where it’s already been with the exception of it being new/fresh…(just not all that interesting sonically speaking and devoid of any Wow moments). With the songs themselves lacking excitement or inventiveness the draw becomes the relatability of hearing the truth of what she’s been through and how & where we can all relate to those experiences.
Bottom line, 2 tracks rise above the rest “Rebound” with an awesome conceptual performance somewhat reminiscent of Madonna’s choreography in Human Nature & “Can’t Get Enough” which vibes like Mary J Blige’s “Be Happy” & “You Bring Me Joy” .
All in all it’s an album of pretty songs, safe instrumentals, she sounds great but we’ve been here before.-S.Phoenix
