Absolutely disappointed! The book was beautifully written and this movie is a cut out disgrace. Firstly, the character casting did not make sense. Olly in the movie does not have blue eyes, or short hair. Personally, I did not see the dimple under his right eye and Carla is supposed to be a stout lady. Madelines hair is not so wavy.
Secondly, the movie was rushed. The cutscenes seemed empty and out of place. There is no doubt this movie was soley made for the ones who read the book beforehand.
Not to mention how IMPORTANT elements were missed entirely and some of the order is completed messed up. For instance, Carla's "life is a gift" sentence was ignored which was a pivotal line in the book. Maddy did not get a phone until the end. Ollys rooftop hideout and the solar system model was ignored. Olly did not catch an unbalanced Maddy when she's doing a headstand. Olly wasn't particularly portrayed as an overly energetic person. The entire house escape was supposed to happen at 4 AM and this was like in the noon? Ollys gay friend did not even come into the screen. The sex scene was abrupt. The fight between his father and olly was again, rushed. They did not go to Carla's house. Maddest architect teacher never really showed up. Kara's smoking habits are never shown either. Maddy was supposed to be there at the bookstore before Olly.
Not to mention irrelevant scenes like Maddy spending a night at Carla's place. Rosa and maddy interacting at the beginning. This movie
Very lethargically crafted in my humble opinion. In fact, Everything and everything did not sit right in this movie.
