I usually don't pay much attention to critics and usually try to make my own assessment. So here it is after submitting myself to the entire season of watching.. I really wanted to like this show. Heck I like Katee Sackhoff a lot. She seems like a great person in real life, very smart, strong willed, determined and yet very fun at the same time. So I was hoping for some gritty quality powerful storytelling in the BSG style or tradition.. but what I got instead was a very derivative space soap opera with kids barely out of school being immature and romping in space. Is that the best the earth could offer to represent our human race for a potential first contact??? And the politicians and military back on earth... so very one dimensional and simple-minded. Virtually no character development there. And after the artifact incident killing Mr. Harrison senior, that place would have cracked down with so much security. But then you see Erik with his dying daughter just so easily wander up and into the artifact with absolutely no one around on watch. yeah right! One of the many flaws in the story and so predictable and poorly rehashed from stories that have been told before. C'mon people!!!
Please take your lessons from the master scifi storytellers out there.. like those behind the phenomenal The Expanse, or the brilliance of Continuum, or the wonderful character development found in Man in the High Castle. Now THAT's quality storytelling people!
So I guess I'm sorry Katee.. not even you can save this mess of a show. But at least you and Elizabeth Ludlow's character Cas saved me from giving this show a 1 star.
