This movie is showing at my local theater. It sounds like it might be good, plenty of people who have seen it say that it's good, and I definitely believe in miracles. However, the big turnoff for me is its promotion as a "Christian" movie. Don't get me wrong -- I believe in God and Jesus as well as Jesus's teachings in the Bible to love and care for one another, but I have been completely alienated by far-right evangelical so-called "Christians" that are actually quite intolerant and hateful towards immigrants and the less fortunate and think that everyone else should be forced to adopt their extremist, controlling, intolerant belief system (especially in regard to women and their right to control their own bodies and destinies) and their apparent desire to turn our hitherto wonderful (but not without flaws) democracy into an authoritarian theocracy. Based upon thousands of comments I've seen on social media and the news articles I've read, they are not succeeding in bringing people closer to God; in fact, they are achieving the exact opposite and driving them away from organized religion altogether. They are viewed as the American Taliban, and I pretty much agree with that assessment. Movies like "Unplanned" are nothing but American Taliban propaganda. All of that being said, I most likely will actually go see "Breakthrough," as it will be a welcome relief from the ubiquitous superhero movies that seem to dominate the movie scene lately.
