One of the best games I have ever played!
Combat is challenging, but fair. I feel like the 2000's in general were an exploration of the possibilities of combat mechanics; this one feels like a blend of traditional turn based mechanics and the more common in-the-moment tactical combat. The combined use of the freeze-frame tactical planning menu as well as the ability to set your preferences for how the NPC's will act in combat allow for a very personalized playstyle.
Each character feels fully fleshed out contributes to the overall narrative of the game, love them or hate them. Are you going to be swayed by Alistair, the lovably awkward templar-turned grey warden? Or maybe Zevran (my favorite) the charming assassin with a heart-wrenching past? Leliana, guided by her conviction to Andraste? Or Morrigan, the secretive hedge-witch with a free spirit? Even the non-romanceable characters like Sten and Ohgren allow the player a deeper understanding of the nuances of the world around you.
The progression of the game allows you to make difficult decisions that impact the narrative, and your choices DO matter. Will you save Ferelden from the blight?
And most importantly: YOU CAN PET THE DOG
