I have never been able to read J.K. Rowling, but her yarns make for great cinema. The leads in this show are perfect and seem made for one another. The production quality is high, the musical theme is great, the scenery in and around London is continually engaging, and the plots are sufficiently layered for this show to be a real pleaser--one you can watch again with enjoyment. To me, that is the gold standard for detective shows--if once you know who did it, you still are haunted by the characters and want to revisit them and their stories. If there is any knock on the show, the pace is a bit leisurely. But then, that even works in this show. The action is more realistic than most detective shows where the leads literally defy death and dismemberment every week. The other great thing about this show is that even though J.K, Rowling and I would probably disagree somewhat on most topics, it just doesn't matter. You feel like whatever her opinions she is basically a decent person and a great storyteller--and, by God, that should be enough for anyone.Long may she continue.
