Let’s get one thing clear - with about three/four exceptions (Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Michael Keaton - Imogen Potts?) the acting is god awful. There’s one particular scene with Rami Maleks character which I look away from every time because of the overdose of cringe. But that’s what makes this film the best two hours of your life is the solemn and talented main characters combined with the laughable side characters, which results in nothing but charm.
Moving on from the characters to the cars, it features a variety for everyone from classic and modern muscle to million dollar hypercars, and the stunts are all completely real with minimal to none CGI. The camera work allows for some breathtaking shots within the film, which make the most of the beautiful locations the film uses, especially the final coast race.
The story is clique but rather than view it as a copy I much prefer to refer to it as an improvement. The final aspect of this film is the one I find the most memorable, being the soundtrack. The original score is one of the best I have ever heard in a film ever. And I’ve seen way too many films. It’s intense and skilled stuff that blares out during the phenomenal races.
If you’re going to take everything within the film seriously then don’t bother, but if you can sit back and soak up the pure childish joy that this film is then it’s perfect for you
