I absolutely love this rewrite of the iconic story. The only thing I hated about it is actually one of things I absolutely loved about it and that was the humanizing of Jason Voorhees through use of the tunnel systems under the camp site. On one hand it killed the supernatural element (no pun intended, Jared Padalecki) of the character, which is the only thing I hated, but it redeemed itself by making some of the Jason attack scenes more creative. Jared Padalecki's performance in this film was excellent and I would really love to see him more in leading roles in horror films. Derek Mears as Jason... I had my doubts originally before watching it for the first time, however, he is now in the same category as Kane Hodder and CJ Graham. His presence on camera AFTER getting the hockey mask was amazing and I truly hope if the sequel gets made, Mears gets the role! That's my long winded review and honestly, I would have given 5 stars for the brutality level of the deaths alone, but eliminating the supernatural element (again, no pun intended Jared Padalecki) from Jason's persona is the reason I gave it 4 out of 5. Check it out if you have not.
