I love Romeo and Juliet so much because of the nuanced takes it has on familial loyalty and the tragedy that attends those who refuse to communicate their intentions. This continuation of the story does no justice to the original. The "Prince of Cats" is a nickname that Mercutio gave Tybalt and furthermore Tybalt is not in charge of the Capulets. Rosaline took a vow of chastity and swore she would never love anyone. She and Romeo never even spoke, Romeo just obsessed over her from afar. To be clear, none of these things are my interpretation, they are all stated in the text. I know that everyone can have their own interpretations but this hot take just makes me so upset because it's bizarre that someone took this message away from the original play.
(I've given two stars instead of one because I respect that people can have different opinions)
