I hardly enjoyed reading any part of this book. The entire book felt like 400 pages of exposition, and most of the twists hit much weaker than they felt they should. I enjoyed the descriptions of Mary's illness and transformation, but the rest of the book falls flat in being scary or fascinating. Some of the language was also lost with time, confusing me as to what "'arf-quid" meant. This book felt like it failed to be both entertaining and philosophical.
