Amazingly enough Joan Didion and I have led parallel lives covering much of the twentieth century and some of the twenty-first but our ways of dealing with the public and private tragedies we experienced could not have been more different. She was able to share her observations and understand what she experienced through her writing; I merely tried to live my life day to day. My belated exposure to her story has helped me a little to understand mine. The film was exceptional. A great biography and tribute to a remarkable writer and person.
