The show’s visuals are top notch and the actual Shadow and Bone storyline of the show is great. The castings as well is superb. The greatest failings of the show is the fact they took the Duology, Six of Crows (set in Ketterdam after the events of the main Shadow and Bone trilogy) and completely mashed it up unsuccessfully in this new show. It kills the stakes, and leaves the characters of the Six of Crows flat whereas they were gripping in the book. If you felt like you were watching two different shows, it’s because you are.
The Six of Crows have such strong storytelling and character development that it is such a shame that it’s been made to all focus on Alina. I really wanted to have high hopes for the series, however I cringe every time they force the Six of Crows characters in a storyline that doesn’t do the characters nor the great actors justice. Such a shame...it could’ve been brilliant. Netflix has been breaking my heart lately first with Winx now this. I don’t think my heart is going to be able to take their rendition of The Last Airbender 😩
