After watching all 5 episodes I can understand some of the outrage. I'm heavily disappointed in the direction they chose, and the plot is contrived and rushed. The animation looks good, at least.
It's not particularly designed with old fans in mind, nor is it designed to catch new viewers. It's a show full of stereotypes and tropes, but not a whole lot of quality.
