This movie was made on the premise of a documentary. Most of the people involved were told that they were contributing to a humanitarian effort to improve a third world country. The villagers were unaware that they were presented as rapists and abortionists and were paid $4 a DAY for a movie that grossed $90 million. Even after the incredibly insulting interaction with the feminist group, the producer begged the ladies to speak with Cohen again, stating that “he’s from a third world country and doesn’t know better” only for Cohen to then ask them to take off their tops. They repeatedly exposed themselves to unwilling bystanders, which is illegal and disgusting. How do they know they weren’t psychologically harming people? Some people have sexual assault-related PTSD but they don’t take that into account. It’s absolutely disgusting that Cohen not only supported and encouraged racist, sexist, and ableist behavior, but he participated in only as well. Those jokes could absolutely be funny in a certain setting. But knowing that these racists and sexists felt encouraged to say those horrible things is awful. This is not a movie of comedic genius, it’s a violation of basic human rights and it takes advantage of innocent, unsuspecting people.
