Literally played through this so many times as a child I could not count. I have been hopeful for a remake or playable sequel to the story for 23 years. I believe this has completely met my expectations with a great new spin. A great nods of nostalgia, so many and story tracks memorized in 2D and imagined through a child’s eyes in 3D to now see built in 3D with modern graphics caused so many moments of, this is what I imagined it to be. Generally to old and busy to be a gamer anymore but the pandemic allowed time for my PS4 which has turned into a Pixar’s Cars and Netflix’s for kids streaming machine for my children to get the chance to be a gaming machine in what seemed to be a serendipitous time to slow down and re-live some childhood memories. The game flow was adaptive enough to bring in some of the old battle sequence and strategy to a new world version of RPG and battle systems. It felt like riding a bike! The twist though maybe controversial personally I love. I have relived and replayed the original so many times and so many ways of the many years attempting to change and manipulate the story as much as the programming possibly allowed. To bring us through Midgar as closely but as interestingly as they did remaining true to the original storyline, while expanding on and filling some backstory which was left to imagination the first time around but also opening up the rest of the game is a modern version of what the open world in 97 could have only dreamed of doing. Personally I am hopeful there will be the possibility to continue on as closely tied to the original storyline as possible, but by choice, but this also opens the door to changing fate if you make different decisions. I am really not sure why more I could have asked for.
