Just finished, the story is absolutely phenomenal, the graphics are amazing but I was still super disappointed with the gameplay. The game attempts to combine the recent success of RE7 with the brilliance of RE4 but it falls flat. It feels like a bad first person remake of RE4, it keeps all the grinding of 4 without any of the heart. I don’t know if it’s the lose of stagger melee, the inability to dodge just in the nick of time or something else but it lacks that spark that made playing as Leon Kennedy so satisfying. It also fails to take the best out of 7 with a couple exceptions most of the game doesn’t feel like you need to stay frosty by the end I found myself checking the walls for loot because I knew I had plenty of time if there was an enemy in the room and to add the cherry to the top of this failed adaptation the FPS mechanics take a set back from 7s expansions you no longer user sights on the guns instead holding it to the side even tho Ethan went through military training between last game and this. I’m really hoping the DLC will be able bridge the gap because this game has the potential it just doesn’t get there.
