Ughhhhhhhh! I wanted to like this film so badly, but the magic just wasn’t there - literally. Spoilers! Besides the spark of a couple of characters (Lily and Timmy), the film simply lacked any new ideas or concepts and relied on a few special effects to create the ‘witchy’ vibe. The original left me feeling like I had watched something somewhat realistic, where as this one left me feeling like I had just watched another instalment of Twilight. I think the main issue is just lack of good writing. The idea was okay, but was poorly executed. There was also room for more backstory. How did her stepfather know she had powers? What initiated his plot to steal them from her? How did he meet Lily’s mother? Are his kids aware of their roots? Are they also practising witches? How did Timmy die? And the list goes on... I think with a little more effort in the writing, this film could have been decent. But because it was rushed, jumped right into a storyline without any backstory, and lacked any sort of real climax, it was nothing more than a disappointment.
