Stunning and absolutely entertaining in every way. Each scene framed amazingly, the detail of production is in every way mesmerising and captivating. For me, this is one of the most intelligent movie about the man Jesus of Nazareth produced in recent times - the acting is stellar, and the focus is always on choices, whether by the Apostles, or by the imperial Rone, or the influential people of those times. I cringe on previous films that deliberately feed you more with miracles which I myself question its veracity, rather than the human nature, social justice and politics. This movie is a great way for anyone to understand how actions have consequences and how every action driven by ego and fear can quickly spiral into absolute chaos.
Yes, 'it underlines the importance of having faith, and staying true to what one knows to be right but not be blinded by twisted religious dogma. Above all, it is a testament to compassion being the real force that drives humanity forward.' - as one review mentioned.
It's been a decade that I last seen a movie that portrays the event of the Crucifixion of Jesus, that dramatizes the personal experience of that event in a manner that puts the viewer in the role of a fascinated witness. Set in ancient Judea, for me, this is not propaganda on epic proportions nor a sordid exposé of the main players imagined flaws. But rather a compelling portrayal of 'believable' characters attempting to sort their lives out after experiencing an unnatural event that compels a decision.
